Maurice Roucel began his career in the perfume industry at Chanel in 1973 as the head chromatography chemist. During this time he began an apprenticeship under Henri Robert, the then in-house parfumeur at Chanel. Upon the completion of his studies with Robert, Roucel joined Quest International, where he worked for twelve years as a parfumeur. Over the course of a career spanning four decades, Roucel has worked at IFF, Dragoco and Quest and created fragrances for some of the most prestigious houses including Guerlain, Frédéric Malle's Éditions de Parfums, Le Labo and Rochas. Over the years he has developed a distinct olfactory style and his signature is the use of magnolia in his compositions.
