Description The genius of Agonist is their ability to take simplify familiar structures and elevate. The resulting compositions always feel effortlessly chic and eminently wearable. With Dark Saphir Agonist tackles the woody rose. This type of fragrance had its heyday in the seventies and eighties with fragrances like Jean-Marc Sinan's now discontinued Sinan, Estée Lauder's Knowing and Clinique's Aromatic Elixir. Dark Saphir polishes and modernizes the concept, taking advantage of new materials and trends to produce a dark, woody and brooding rose fragrance like no other. Notably, Dark Saphir introduces a central accord of oud into the mix—a material produced by aquillaria trees in response to fungal or bacterial infections. The aroma of oud can be earthy, woody, leathery, animalic or nutty. It is sometimes described as having an odor profile somewhere between that of sandalwood and patchouli and it happens to pair excellently with rose. In Dark Saphir, the oud is joined by a huge rose, smoky guaïac wood, patchouli and a melange of spices. Sweet berry accents provide a nice counterpoint to all of that darkness and the verdant, peppery zing of violet leaf brightens up the composition.
