Description  In typical fashion, Agonist offers a truly unique take on one of perfumery's most beloved raw materials with Black Amber. Dry, salty, smoky, peppery and resinous—this isn't your run-of-the-mill amber. In fact, Black Amber is more woody-spicy than ambery. The fragrance opens with an herbal woodiness paired with a dark, earthy, almost licorice-like coolness. It feels dark and damp, like a hidden patch of forest floor perpetually shielded from the sun. The thick veil of spice is apparent from the very beginning: clove, nutmeg, cinnamon and black pepper. Slowly the central note of frankincense begins to rise accompanied by a cool, resinous amber. There is a subtle mentholated quality that keeps Black Amber from feeling like a traditional amber scent. Over time the base of cedar, patchouli, styrax and ambergris comes into focus, wrapping the composition in a dark, woody embrace.
